The City of Fresno retained Peters Engineering Group to prepare plans, specifications, and estimate for the reconstruction of Olive Avenue from Yosemite to Roosevelt, based on the approved Tower District Streetscape Plan dated February, 2010. The intent of the project was to rehabilitate the old pavement and provide upgrades to the pedestrian and landscape facilities. The upgrades included design of curb extensions, or “pop-outs,” that narrowed the roadway to reduce pedestrian crossing time and encourage lower vehicle speeds. Significant efforts were made to maintain truck and vehicle access for businesses in the corridor, while upgrading pedestrian facilities to be ADA compliant and constructing improvements within the existing public right of way. Several public meetings with local business owners and residents were held to review the proposed designs and provide opportunity for input and comment. Peters Engineering Group and City staff coordinated on the design to provide the best possible repair to the existing pavement section while limiting impacts to businesses. The project was designed in 2019/2020 and construction was completed in Spring 2022.
